Free doughnuts!

FREE DONUTS: At Krispy Kreme & Dunkin Donuts

Thought Memorial Day heralded the arrival of summer? What kind of freebie-lover are you!
The end of May means that National Donut Day is almost here. That’s right, it’ll soon be the first Friday in June, when donut shops large and small throw open their doors and start handing out those dough-y bits of goodness…for free!
The biggest players in the game are Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme, both of whom will once again be giving out free donuts this year. At Dunkin Donuts you’ll have to purchase a beverage to get the gratis goodie (bottled sodas don’t count) while at Krispy Kreme you’ll have your pick of donuts without any purchase. On the regional level Lamar’s will also be handing out free donut holes. But make sure to check in with your favorite local or regional donut outlet, too, as they may have their own giveaway planned.
Though it sounds like a totally made-up holiday, National Donut Day is actually legit. It was begun in Chicago in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. So if you didn’t properly reflect on those who served our country on Memorial Day weekend, this is a chance to reflect on those women who served those who serve.
As with every dining deal, make sure you call ahead to check with your local restaurant before heading out. “At participating locations” means just that!

Get a free meal at IHOP

My husband and I had a free lunch yesterday at Ihop. How did we do this? We signed up for their weekly newsletter at their official website and when you do that, they send you a coupon for a free meal, a Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity. Then they also email you another one on your birthday. Since my birthday is next week, I got 2 coupons! The Ihop we went to allowed us to use both, so we had a nice 20 meal for free. Dont worry, we left a good tip! If you have never been there, you get bacon eggs and pancakes for your free meal. Very tasty but not worth the money if you can get it for free.

Check out these 3 cute shoes I bought for 20 each. I love them and will totally be getting my moneys worth! Plus I can wear them to work!

Just tried my free sample

I just tried the free sample of Garnier Moisture Rescue that came in the mail today. The sample was rather small but they provided enoug of the product for me to tell that it is quality. It had a very nice smell to it; clean, fresh, almost minty. It made my dry skin feel prett good and wasnt greasy. Just smooth. It came with a dollar off coupon so I may consider buying it in the future if I can find a good sale.

Crackerfuls Coupon

Yummy deal! Click here to like Ritz Crackers on facebook and get a coupon for 75 cents off a box of Crackerfuls. Have you tried Crackerfuls yet? They are deeeeelicious! Plus they seem to have some sort of app on their facebook page that plays Glee music. Glee and cheap snacks? I'm in!

Free Nexcare Products?

Passion for Savings has a link to a printable coupon for $1 off Nexcare products. Since many Wal-Mart stores have their bandages marked down to $1 on Rollback, you may be able to get them for free! Click here to get the coupon. My only beef with this coupon is that it is REALLY REALLY big! It also has a place to write a shopping list at the bottom. Really? Who writes their shopping list on a coupon? Seems weird to me.

Mail call!

Today was a great trip to the mailbox. Not a single bill in sight! Instead of bills, I had the following
  • Free samples of Taster's Choice Instant Coffee along with a dollar off coupon. My husband loves these things and since you can find these often for $1 at drugstores, he should be able to get another free box.
  • 2 coupons for 2 free bags of OreIda sweet potato fries. I'm not sure why they send 2 bags but I'll take it! They sound yummy!
  • free sample of Garneir lotion along with a coupon
  • Cheer coupon
  • free sample of Head and Shoulder's Men shampoo. It is supposed to make men's hair look thicker. Perfect for my balding hubby. Hehehehe If THAT product really works, I will be sure to pay FULL price for a full size bottle!
The only other thing was my weekly netflix movie. This week I am watching "I am number four". I've read the book and I can't wait to see the film.

Want a mailbox more like mine? Sign up for samples as I post them and you soon will!

My 35 cent Wal-Mart Trip!

I got to brag about this one!

Last night my husband and I walked out of our local store with a bag containing 6 items that we only paid 35 cents for! It was a wonderful feeling and a great shopping trip. The other customers

Here is what we bought and here is how we got it!

Items Purchased:

·         2 Scotch Magic Tape – They are normally priced $1.22
We used 2 $1 any Scotch tape item we found in an old Sunday paper but if you don’t have that coupon, you can use the free printable coupons from HERE
                Total:  44 cents

·         Then we used the coupons we had sent to us for FREE from Kraft First Taste. Kraft sent us coupons in the mail for one free four pack of Breakstone 100 calorie cottage cheese (cost of item was $2.68) one free double pack of Breakstone cottage cheese (cost of item was 88 cents) and 1.00 when you buy 2 double packets.  The 2 double packets ended up being .76 total.

Our total with coupons was $7.76. Once you take off the value of the coupons, this should have been a total of 1.22 for all of the items.

Here’s where we got lucky! One of the items did not scan correctly. Walmart has a policy where if an item does not scan properly and it is their fault, you get the item for free if it is under $5.00 So we got one our tapes for free and all we had to pay was the sales tax. I’m not sure how we had to pay any sales tax since our whole bag should have been free, but hey, I was quite happy to be walking out of Wal-Mart with a bag of items for 35 cents, so I didn’t argue!

As we walked out into the parking lot, I looked at my husband and I said to him HOW COOL WAS THAT!?!!?!

I was in a very gleeful mood all the way home. After all, getting something for nothing is darn fun.
Now you will have to excuse me, I have to go tape my receipt to the kitchen refrigerator with a big gold star sticker!

Coming up soon: My trip to Walgreens and how I got over 17 dollars worth of items for under 5 bucks!  No scanning errors this time. Not to shabby, eh?

Welcome!

My husband and I have begun couponing in the past few months.

We do it for several reasons.

  • ·         To save money on things we normally buy anyway, everyday needs/wants
  • ·         To try new brands and items that we normally would not have bought of afforded
  • ·         To generally save money on our grocery bill so we can spend the money on other things such as entertainment, travel, home improvements, savings, and living credit card debt free
  • ·         For fun!  As corny as it sounds, it is a lot of fun to get free items. My husband and I enjoy searching for the best deals online, signing up for free samples and the rush of getting a bag full of items super cheap! We grocery shop together on the weekends so it is a hobby we can do together that costs us nothing.

We also aim to save money in other ways in our life by
  • ·         getting free books and movies for free through the local library (something everyone tells you to do but few people actually take advantage of)
  • ·         watching tv shows for free online instead of paying for cable
  • ·         going to free or cheap local events
  • ·          getting the best deals on lodging and fun things to do when we travel (a passion of ours)

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love couponing but I don’t aim to be one of the crazy people on the TLC Extreme Couponing show. If you want to have a pyramid of toothpaste in your garage, more power to you, but I am not that organized and would probably end up on Hoarders instead. Besides, those people on that show spend money on coupon clipping services, u-hauls to bring home their buys and special storage for their stockpiles. If you have spend money to get the coupons, transport the items, store the items, then its not a good deal. Not to mention some of these people will drive hours out of their way to find stores that do double or triple coupons and spend 40+ hours a week.  I work full time and want to have time to enjoy the money I save with coupons.

So welcome to my blog. I will share my coupon strategies, what items I got cheap or for free and fun things I discover along the way, I’ll also be looking to my readers to let me know what is  going on in their couponing adventures so we can all help each other.

I’ll be back later to tell you about my Wal-Mart trip where I got a bag full of groceries for 35 cents!
