My husband and I have begun couponing in the past few months.
We do it for several reasons.
- · To save money on things we normally buy anyway, everyday needs/wants
- · To try new brands and items that we normally would not have bought of afforded
- · To generally save money on our grocery bill so we can spend the money on other things such as entertainment, travel, home improvements, savings, and living credit card debt free
- · For fun! As corny as it sounds, it is a lot of fun to get free items. My husband and I enjoy searching for the best deals online, signing up for free samples and the rush of getting a bag full of items super cheap! We grocery shop together on the weekends so it is a hobby we can do together that costs us nothing.
We also aim to save money in other ways in our life by
- · getting free books and movies for free through the local library (something everyone tells you to do but few people actually take advantage of)
- · watching tv shows for free online instead of paying for cable
- · going to free or cheap local events
- · getting the best deals on lodging and fun things to do when we travel (a passion of ours)
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love couponing but I don’t aim to be one of the crazy people on the TLC Extreme Couponing show. If you want to have a pyramid of toothpaste in your garage, more power to you, but I am not that organized and would probably end up on Hoarders instead. Besides, those people on that show spend money on coupon clipping services, u-hauls to bring home their buys and special storage for their stockpiles. If you have spend money to get the coupons, transport the items, store the items, then its not a good deal. Not to mention some of these people will drive hours out of their way to find stores that do double or triple coupons and spend 40+ hours a week. I work full time and want to have time to enjoy the money I save with coupons.
So welcome to my blog. I will share my coupon strategies, what items I got cheap or for free and fun things I discover along the way, I’ll also be looking to my readers to let me know what is going on in their couponing adventures so we can all help each other.
I’ll be back later to tell you about my Wal-Mart trip where I got a bag full of groceries for 35 cents!
